Fence Contractor in Barrington, Illinois
A 6 foot cedar privacy fence is standard in one Barrington back yard and not allowed at all one village line away. Diamond Fence Corp. is a family owned fence contractor in Barrington, Illinois. We install vinyl privacy, wood, ornamental aluminum and commercial fencing, and the village permit and the HOA submittal are part of the job.
The villages here each run their own fence code. It sets your height, your material, and whether you get the fence at all. So we read it off your plat of survey before we quote a product.
Which Village Decides Your Fence Height
A 60010 address does not tell you which village governs the parcel. Find yours below before you settle on a panel style.
| Village or county | Tallest yard fence | Front yard fence |
|---|---|---|
| Village of Barrington | 6 feet rear and side | 3 feet, a third open |
| South Barrington | 4 feet, enclosures only | No |
| North Barrington | 42 inches including posts and caps | R-1 horse containment |
| Lake Barrington | 7 feet in single family districts | No |
| Deer Park | 4 feet rear and side, 3 feet street facing | Picket or split rail, 3 feet |
| Unincorporated Cook County | 6 feet on a lot line | 3 feet |
A dog run, a court enclosure or a garden fence can run taller, so we measure an enclosure against its own rule. We confirm the current rule for your property before we stake anything.
What You Can Actually Build at a 60010 Address
South Barrington is the sharpest case. A residential fence there is permitted only around a swimming pool, a tennis court or a dog run. Aluminum, steel and wrought iron are named for it, so we scope the estimate to the enclosure, not the property line.
Solid privacy fence is prohibited in every residential district in South Barrington, North Barrington and Deer Park, so the honest product in the last two is an open picket.
Our lead product is the vinyl fence, and the Village ordinance names it as stick built solid core, not a hollow stock panel. Deer Park names vinyl too but wants every elevation half open, so a picket works there and a privacy panel does not.
Every materials list published here names the aluminum fence, and two villages want it to read as wrought iron, so we specify the picket profile, not just the metal.
Wood fence goes in as cedar privacy where solid fence is allowed and post and rail where it is not. Chain link fence is the dog run and court answer here, never the yard fence. Commercial work runs to ornamental steel perimeters and gates.

The Barrington Villages We File Permits In
We install fence on 60010 parcels in Cook and Lake County, including Barrington Hills, Tower Lakes, Kildeer and Port Barrington. Send the address and we will tell you which village you are filing in.
- Village of Barrington: Jewel Park, Steeplechase, Tall Trees, Wyngate, Park Barrington, The Oaks of Barrington, Short Hills
- South Barrington: Bridlewood, Cutters Run, The Coves. North Barrington: Wynstone
The rulebook changes town by town, so every neighbor gets its own fence contractor page: Inverness, Long Grove, Buffalo Grove, Wheeling, Arlington Heights, Schaumburg, Hoffman Estates and Crystal Lake. Palatine is filed under fence installation in Palatine.

Where the Fence Line Gets Set, and Why the Survey Comes First
The Village of Barrington and Lake Barrington let a fence sit on the property line. North Barrington pulls it inside the lot, and South Barrington keeps it out of every yard setback. So we stake off your survey, not off the neighbor's fence.
The Village and unincorporated Cook County both want a plat of survey with the fence drawn on it, and the county will not take one over 5 years old. We check its age at the estimate, because an out of date plat stalls the filing.
Corner lots cost you the tall side. The street facing run drops to the lower open fence, so we redraw the privacy panel and move the gate off that elevation. The Village also has the owner stake the corner pins before the pre-pour inspection, and we schedule that ahead of the concrete.
Long Perimeter Runs on Estate and Horse Property
Lots here run to acres, so we measure the perimeter rather than assume it. Those runs quote at the longer tier, two to three days at 200 feet and up. We size gate openings for a truck and trailer, not just a mower.
Barrington Hills allows a fence or berm up to 6 feet above natural grade. An open type fence can go to 8 feet where it does not cut visibility by half. That favors open post and rail over a solid paddock line.
A riding easement can cross the back of a Barrington Hills lot. So we read the survey with you and set the fence line and the gates clear of the trail.
Why Two Barrington Yards Quote Differently
| Material | Relative cost | What you get |
|---|---|---|
| Wood | Most affordable to mid-range | Cedar privacy, post and rail. |
| Vinyl privacy | Mid-range to higher-end | Solid low maintenance panels, our lead build. |
| Aluminum ornamental | Higher-end to premium | Powder coated picket for frontages and pool barriers. |
- Lot size. Acreage is the Barrington driver, and a long perimeter moves the number most.
- Architectural review. A committee usually approves a fence up the material ladder, not down.
- Tear out. A core village lot usually carries an older wood fence that has to come out first.

Committee First, Village Second, Dig Third
1. Committee submittal
We prepare one drawing set with the site plan, elevation, material, color, height and gate detail. Submit to the HOA before or alongside the village permit, never after. A rejection means tearing out and starting over.
2. Village or county filing
We file the permit with the village, or with the county on unincorporated lots.
3. Historic district review, if it applies
A home inside the Village's historic overlay needs its fence design approved before the building permit. We draw the elevation to the district's material guidance, file it first, and tell you at the estimate whether your block is in it.
4. Utility locate
We file a J.U.L.I.E. 811 locate at least two full business days before we break ground. Private lines are yours, so we walk irrigation, invisible fence and septic fields with you at the estimate.
5. Install and walkthrough
Our fence installers set posts below the local frost line, roughly 42 inches, a depth unincorporated Cook County puts in writing. Finished side out: the good side faces your neighbor and the street. We walk the fence with you before we call it done.
Full process runs roughly three to four weeks from deposit. Approvals and material set that clock, not the build.
Barrington Fence Questions, Answered
Who actually pulls the permit on a Barrington address?
Whichever village your parcel sits in. Barrington Hills, Deer Park, Lake Barrington and Kildeer lots all sit inside the Barrington 60010 mailing area. We read the code off your plat and file with whoever owns it.
Can I fence my yard in South Barrington?
Not as a yard perimeter. What is allowed is an enclosure around a pool, a tennis court or a dog run, and nothing on the property line. We build those in aluminum, steel or wrought iron, at 4 to 5 feet for a pool.
Can I get a chain link fence in Barrington?
Not as a yard fence. The Village of Barrington prohibits it in every zoning district, and Lake Barrington outside construction sites and planned developments. Where chain link does work we build it as a dog run, and we spec an aluminum picket for anything facing the street.
How long does a fence take on an acre lot?
Longer than a village lot. Under 200 feet installs in one to two days, and 200 feet and up runs two to three days. Most acre perimeters land in that second tier, so we measure the whole run before we schedule it.
Does the HOA have to approve it too, or just the village?
Both, and the committee goes first. South Barrington's fence permit handout asks for a subdivision architectural approval letter. We build both packets off the same drawings.
There is a pond on the property. Does that need a fence too?
Often yes. On an unincorporated Cook County parcel, water over 24 inches deep gets fenced like a pool. We build that barrier in powder coated aluminum, with self latching gates that swing away from the water, and we file the permit.
